Literature

Gopis, Goddessed and Demons, exhibition catalogue, Spink & Son, London, November 2000 no.57
A red sandstone panel of rectangular form deeply carved with floral motifs in a symmetrical composition. The central rosette has on both sides a flower spray with stylized leaves, enclosed within a rectangular floral scrolling frame of interlocking ornamental and straight links with motifs of flower heads at both ends of the frame. The floral designs with stylised elements were very popular in the Mughal period art and architecture.
For similar floral designs, see the lower part of two 18th century jali screens in the Dallas Museum of Art, object numbers 2009.8.1 and 2009.8.2.
